Riverside House : Pubs, Restaurants, Food, Drink

Just off the Monsal Trail, about 10 minutes or so if walking and about one hour or so from Riverside House holiday cottage depending on age and fitness.  If driving about 10 minutes.  A charming, traditional, compact village pub with open fire, good local food and real ales. Muddy boots, children and dogs are all welcome.  It is now in the Good Beer Guide. Food is served 12-3 and 6-9 Mon to Fri, 12-9 Sat and 12-8 Sun.  Tel: 01629 640471

The Packhorse Inn

Located about 10 mins walk off The Monsal Trail and about one hour each way from Riverside House holiday cottage.  By car about 10 mins drive.  This is the Derbyshire Life pub of the year for 2016.  A very pleasant interior, set out well for different groups of diners with welcoming, pleasant staff.  The food is great as is the beer/ale.  Dogs are welcome in the tap room.  Tel: 01629 640252

The White Lion, Great Longstone

After a first visit to this pub in March 16 we are happy to include it on our list.  It does take about 20 mins drive from Riverside House holiday cottage, but we think it is worth it.  Why not combine it with a walk?

The first thing to say is that this is a dining pub but it has a relaxed feel.  The second thing is that the food portions are large!  Go hungry.  There is a huge range of pies, burgers and amazing steaks.  You will not be dissapointed if you like good pub fayre.  Service was friendly and helpful.

There are local real ales on tap and we also enjoyed the wine selection.  Plenty of parking.

Situated off the Monsal Trail, about 10 minutes if walking and offers a good walk from Riverside House holiday cottage about one hour each way.  Why not combine with a visit to The Packhorse Inn in Little Longstone or The White Lion in Great Longstone?  Well behaved dogs are welcome too.  The pub serves good beer/ale and good pub food.  Tel: 01629 640237.

The Crispin, Great Longstone

We have visited all the pubs in Tideswell (all in a days work!) and we have given our thoughts below.

The Horse and Jockey has freshly prepared food and the beer is good too.  Tuesday nights you can have two steaks and a bottle of wine for £25.  Curry night is Wednesdays with two courses for £10.  Traditional Sunday dinners with all the trimmings are £7.99.  The pub has log fires and Sky sports. Dogs are welcome.  A very frendly welcome from the landlord and staff and for pub grub this really offers excellent value.

The Star is very welcoming and it is dog friendly in the bar on the right.  This pub is divided into small rooms and the landlady is happy for our guests to book a room (no charge).

The George Inn has plenty of room for groups and families.  A soup and sandwich is £5 for a weekday lunch and a main and dessert are £10 for lunch.  Thursday night is curry night and Friday night is fish specials.  Sunday roast is from £7.95.  Dogs are very welcome inside and out. Once a month there are also cinema evenings upstairs at The George so if you feel like some culture while you are on holiday this is worth looking into.  The email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Anchor Inn, Four Lane Ends, which is on the outskirts of Tideswell is now a steak and rum bar and has been revitalised by new owners.  Well worth trying and has plenty of parking.
