Tideswell or 'Tidsa' as it is know locally is an attractive Derbyshire village in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Also known as the 'Cathedral town of the Peak' for its magnificent 14th century Parish Church of St John the Baptist. Tideswell's four well-dressings are also among the finest in the Peak, taking place in Wakes Week at the end of June. There are also lots of lovely local walks including Tideswell Dale and the Monsal Trail (both of these walks are very easily accessible from Riverside House). The tunnels of the Monsal Trail are now open and make for a great cycle route too. There are many quiet country lanes, ideal for cycling including the deep gorge of the River Wye (Riverside House is right on it) and the traffic-free Monsal Trail, which follows the line of the former Midland Railway through some of the most spectacular dales scenery in the Peak (walk up to the Trail from the back of Riverside House or take your bikes up and then cycle along the old railway line to Monsal Dale).

There are two trails available that will take you around and about Tideswell. They are available from the information point next to Vanilla Kitchen cafe in the village. Tideswell is home to the Tideswell School of Food, a community run enterprise which is part of the Taste Tideswell project and the Silva Navigation School. For more information, go to http://www.visittideswell.co.uk
Tideswell also has a local co-op supermarket, post office cum newsagent, Tindalls pie and bread shop amongst other lovely delicacies, fruit and veg shop, butcher, chemist, bank, two cafes, fish and chips as well as several pubs. Tideswell is also home to the School of Cookery, where you can learn new cookery skills or take a brewing course or even go foraging. It's a great centre for group and family activities and the courses would make great gifts.
If you are self catering at Riverside House why not support local trades and shop locally in Tideswell?
