The holiday cottage is situated in Millers Dale in the heart of the Peak District National Park and is an ideal location for walking, cycling, touring and rock climbing. Riverside House is in a beautiful setting and is a superb location for immediate access to many walks. The original nineteenth century mill in Litton Mill became notorious during the Industrial Revolution for its unsavoury practices, but it is now converted into flats.
From the doorstep of the holiday cottage are a number of walks. One of the most popular is along the disused railway. Although it is a short steep climb up from the house, once there it is perfectly suitable for pushchairs, bicycles and dogs. You can alternatively start the walk at the disused Miller's Dale station to avoid the climb.
"The central stretch of the limestone gorge of the River Wye is known as Miller's Dale . . . . This river gorge is at its best between Litton Mill and Cressbrook Mill (known sequentially as Miller's Dale, Water-cum-Jolly Dale and Monsal Dale) with towering crags, steep slopes and wooded riverbanks teeming with wildlife".
